So it was Christmas 2014 and Sal and I had gone and bought each other far more presents than necessary. Piles and piles of the things! Not that I’m complaining in any way, Sal’s got me in to the habit of hoarding, collecting present up throughout the latter half of the year so that when Christmas creeps up I’m not in a panic about what to buy. That and the fact that she loves Christmas and I think prefers the unwrapping of presents more than the presents themselves!
So as we worked our way through the many little packages and parcels around our rather handsome, if a little compact, Christmas tree (well our flat isn’t huge) I kept noticing the large parcel at the back looming over all of the others.
Slowly unwrapping this monster, to prolong Sal’s agony a little more, I began to see a cardboard box detailed with a large black logo at its centre. ‘Beer 52 – Discover craft beer. Exclusive small batch beers‘. This was really exciting for me, as I love my beer and have dabbled tentatively in the black art of home brewing before.
So what is Beer 52? Well in essence its a subscription service where every month (or more frequently if you prefer) a collection of carefully selected craft beers are posted directly to your door. I mean, I probably don’t need to say much more but in this instance I will. The box included 8 exciting and new beers I’d not tried or even seen before, and a small snack packet to compliment them. I already knew I loved this Christmas present the most, possibly the most of all Christmas presents, ever!
Sure enough January came quickly creeping round the corner and so did another curated box of 8 excellent craft beers. I’d also started to get in to the monthly magazine that accompanied the beers ‘Ferment‘, which detailed each ale in the box and featured articles about the ever growing craft beer scene. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to contact the guys at Beer 52 and see if we could rustle them up some recipes to feature in the magazine, they kindly accepted and before long we were writing up a monthly beer recipes for Beer 52 lovers to try.
